Special Education Identification and Evaluation (Child Find)
The Needham Public Schools is committed to identifying and supporting students with disabilities. Under federal and state regulations, the district is responsible for locating, identifying, and evaluating any child aged 3 through 21 who may require special education services.
Who Is Covered?
This responsibility applies to all children aged 3–21 who meet any of the following criteria:
● Residents of Needham (including those who are homeschooled or not yet enrolled in school).
● Students attending private schools located within Needham, regardless of their home city or town.
Early Intervention (Ages 3 and 4)
We aim to identify children before their third birthday to ensure timely access to early
intervention services. If you have concerns about your child’s development and would like to
request a developmental screening, please contact the Needham Preschool:

Requesting an Evaluation
If you suspect your child may have a disability or require special education services, you have
the right to request an evaluation at no cost. To initiate this process or for more information, please contact the Special Education Office or School-Based Coordinator.
