Counseling Department K-12

The Needham Public School Guidance Department consists of licensed counselors in each of the 5 elementary schools, the middle schools:  High Rock and Pollard Middle School as well as the Needham High School.  Counselors are available to support all students in addressing the social and emotional, academic and post secondary needs that are a part of each student's learning and growth as a student in the Needham Public Schools.

Our Counselor works with students in individual and group modalities, provides classroom lessons and consults with parents and staff to provide valuable advice on supporting our students.  The counselors support students of all developmental levels from preschool to graduation from the Needham High School. Our Guidance Department supports and works with students, parents and educators to help our students achieve both academic and social emotional growth.  Our work with students and families includes identifying a range of resources needed by our students and families from addressing basic needs to mental health interventions.  Our Guidance Department takes the lead in addressing safety needs through anti-bullying interventions, child abuse prevention or any instances of harassment based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, culture or country of origin.  In addition we actively work with administration and teaching staff to help our students become a culturally responsive, antiracist and anti-biased member of our school community.  We are also working with district and building leaders to enact the vision set forth in The Portrait of A Needham Graduate.  This work represents a district shift to be more future-focused, student-focused, and with students in the role of drivers of their own learning.  To learn more about this Needham Public School effort please go to the following link:  Portrait of a Needham Graduate.
