The district continues to emphasize and prioritize the health and safety of all students and staff. These efforts will continue through the school year, and we will collaborate with families, staff, and public health professionals to ensure our school environments remain healthy.

We will be carefully monitoring for the situations where a student is identified as symptomatic or being a close contact with an individual diagnosed with COVID-19. At this time the district is offering the Test & Stay program to allow asymptomatic close contacts exposed at school to remain in school as long as they get tested daily rather than strict quarantine. For more information, see Quarantine & Test-Stay Guidelines for Close Contacts
Click on the following links to view steps to take if: 1) Student Identified as Symptomatic; or 2) Fully Vaccinated Student identified as Close Contact; or 3) Unvaccinated or Partially Vaccinated Student identified as Close Contact

Needham Public Schools, in collaboration with the Needham Public Health Department, is providing a report on the positive COVID-19 cases for students and staff in our schools by date range, plus the cumulative positive cases by school and in our district. Click on the

We will continue to rely on the Joint Health and Safety Committee  comprised of Public Health staff, school administrators, and school staff representatives who advise the Superintendent and regularly review the following:

1. State Department of Public Health and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education health metrics;
2. Positivity Rates (14-day average) below 5 percent using state, county, and relative rate of change in average;
3. Adherence to NPS expectations for health and safety measures, including mask wearing, hygiene/hand washing, and meeting standards for proper ventilation of schools and classrooms.

The district's health and safety protocols are available for review. You will find them listed and linked in the left-hand column of this page.
